I Hate The Summer Heat.

Friends, foes, and everyone in between,
This summer has kept us insanely busy – and we wanted to fill you in on what’s going on. We’ve been tirelessly trying to remix some of the tunes from “Strength Like Lions”. If there’s one thing we hear all too often it’s, “Clairmont – I love your music, but just can’t seem to dance to it.” Problem solved! The remix to “Leslie” has been a blast to put together, and should be bumping at your local club soon – or at least your iPod. It’s free for the taking, and we encourage you to pirate the heck out of it. We’ve also got a ton of shows that are booked throughout August and September – so check out our ReverbNation page for all the pertinent dates. If you want up-to-the-minute status on new shows and tidbits from us, follow us on Twitter and fan us on Facebook. And – Apple fanboys, fangirls, and iEnthusiast, the official Clairmont app should be making its way into the App Store any day now. Keep your eyes peeled, and share it with all your friends. We can’t promise it will improve your battery life, but it will make your phone or Ipod one billion times cooler.

Aerosmith and New Friends

What a great weekend! When we started out from College Station on Friday we weren’t sure what to expect. We loaded up the van and headed towards Club Realm in Austin to play a show with The Cries Of and The Red Airplanes. The show was small, but a lot of fun, and it was defintely good to be back in Austin. After the show we headed back to Ben’s parents’ house with our new friend Pat from The Cries Of. Saturday we all walked around south Austin enjoying the food and sights, and somehow met Joey Kramer (the drummer from Aerosmith) while hanging out. We decided now probably wouldn’t the best time for us to go on tour with them and instead headed back to the house for more food and comfort. After enjoying a relaxing morning Sunday we loaded up the van again and headed out to San Antonio for one more show with The Cries Of. We met a lot of really cool folks and had a great time there as well.

Please be sure to check out The Cries Of. Pat is a really great guy and is a lot of fun, we’re really glad we got to meet and hang out with him last weekend. We’re already talking about touring the world together in 2011, so get ready!

We’re finally up on Pandora! Now you can create your own Clairmont radio station and tailor it to your liking. If you have never used Pandora, you should really start using it now! Pandora allows you to create a radio station based on musical aspects of bands / songs / albums. To get started head to www.pandora.com and type in Clairmont for your musical preference.

Secondly, getting “Strength Like Lions,” Clairmont’s latest CD, is now easier than ever. Visit our Noisetrade here and give us your email. That’s it! Drummer search is over!

The past month has been very busy for Clairmont, but with the busyness comes great news. Ben and Josh are very excited to announce that Justin Romack will be filling the role of drummer for Clairmont. Justin has been a big help over the past few months, and has already shown a tremendous amount of dedication to the band. We are excited for the opportunities that this new addition will bring. Happy New Year! We’ve definitely enjoyed our brief winter break, but it’s already back to business here in College Station. Thanks to our good friend Justin Romack, we’ll be playing a lot more shows this semester! If you live in the B/CS area, we’ve two scheduled in the next few months. The first is January 30th at Schotzi’s. The second is February 27th at The Stafford. We’ll be booking more in between, so be sure to get back here, or, better yet, sign up for our mailing list!

The End of an Era

Hello friends. We have some very important, and serious, news from the Clairmont camp this week. Rather than trying to explain it up front, I’ll let this letter from Michael suffice:

On February 21st of this year, my wife and I had our first son, Jackson Alexander Steele. During our pregnancy, a lot of people loved to warn us that things are going to completely change once we have a kid, and with this they were very right (although not necessarily to our surprise). Fortunately for us, it’s not all hard change. Overall, our lives have been transformed into something that is far more fulfilling and more wonderful than we could have ever imagined. After six months, it’s difficult to even imagine life without that little dude.

But indeed, it changes things.

Last week I sat down and talked with Ben and Josh, and I told them that being in a touring rock band was no longer in the cards for me. They were extremely understanding and encouraging of my decision. I told them that the biggest thing that I wanted them to know (and that I want everyone to know) is that my leaving has absolutely nothing to do with them or with the music that we write and play. Aside from being very talented musicians, Josh and Ben are two of my closest friends and will remain just that for years to come. This absolutely does not put an end to that by any means, and it is also my hope that I still get the chance to share a stage with them every once in a while.

The sole reason for my decision is simply because Jackson doesn’t belong in smoky bars and clubs, and he just wouldn’t do well with riding in a van for several hours every day and then crashing in strangers’ living rooms at night. This is the life that comes with being in an independent rock band, and for anyone who knows even a little bit about succeeding as that, you certainly know that it requires a lot of touring and a lot of being out on the road in order for it to work. So because my family would have to stay behind while we were out playing shows, it was my decision to save my time for being home with them instead.

This definitely is not the end of my career as drummer. Playing and teaching music will still be a major part of my life; only now it will need to be more accommodating to my new role as a husband and father.
My time with Clairmont will forever be one of my life’s greatest achievements — four different albums, 26 songs, a music video and five and a half years worth of great stories to tell. I don’t regret any of that, and I will certainly be jealous of what’s ahead for Ben and Josh. My hope is that they will continue to build on our success with Clairmont and that they can continue to be a prominent example of humility and good music among an industry that severely lacks both.

As Michael stated, Josh and I are in complete support of this decision and are proud of Michael for taking care of his family before himself. As Michael also stated, Josh and I are still moving forward with Clairmont. At this point we have a few friends who will be filling in on the drums for the next few months, and you may even see Michael at more shows in the future! Michael’s last official show with us is September 3rd, so be sure to come out in support of all that he has done for this band.

New Shows!

Hello again. We’ve added two new shows for our friends in the Bryan/College Station area. On August 7th we’ll be playing with the incredible Dignan, They Mean Us, Almost Handsome, good friends The Heart is a Lonely Hunter, and new talent out of Austin, Gospel and The Wolf. It’s a packed lineup that starts at 8:30, we’ll cap off the night at 12:30, so come out to the Stafford early and stay late! We’ll be back in town on September third for another great show this time with The Canvas Waiting and The Heart is… again.
